Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a digital game jam?

The goal is to come together and pit your game creation skills with your peers. Participants rapidly prototype game designs inject new ideas, learn new skills and most importantly have fun. We share a common theme and constraints, asking participants to create a game from beginning to end in a prescribed time (in this case - 45 hours). The brief time span is meant to help encourage creative thinking to result in small but innovative and experimental games.

Do I need special skills to participate?

This is a competition, so you will want to bring your best team together. A good mix of programming, artistic, and design skills within your team is highly recommended.

Is there a cut-off date to join?

How should I prepare for a 48 hour non-stop game jam?

All participants will have to provide their own development machines and software, so please use whatever you own. Participants are also expected to self provide the logistics necessary if a target platform is in mind.

Make sure you're well rested before the competition begins. Bring along whatever you need to be comfortable away from home for two full days (if you choose to do so). Also ensure you have informed your family about your plans to be away from home. Sleeping bags are welcome, but optional. Do note that we will not be providing any materials so please bring everything you need. You can read more about preparing for a game jam here l game [http://victorystate.blogspot.sg/2011/11/preparing-for-global-game-jam.html].

For health reasons, you might also wish to ensure that you are medically fit for a prolonged overnight activity. All participants are responsible for their own health. We will not be held liable for any health issues that arise as a result of the event.

Will food be provided at the event?

Yes! Dinner will be provided on the first day, all three meals on the second day, and breakfast and lunch on the final day.

Can I leave the premises during the event?

Of course! You get to decide how much time you want to spend at the event. However, to be fair to all participants, no additional time will be granted if anyone has to leave for an extended period of time.

Can I leave my belongings behind in the premises?

At least one person from the organising staff will be on site to oversee the event but please safeguard your own belongings. We will not be held responsible for any incidents of missing possessions or belongings during the course of the game competition.
