PSA: Scams perpetuated through fake advertisements that led victims to download dubious apps have been on the rise recently.
These fake advertisements on social media often offer enticing deals for home services or food items (e.g. home cleaning services, air con maintenance, pet grooming or durians) to lure victims in. Victims would then be tricked to click on a web link to download an app, which are not available on official Google Play or Apple App Store.
When installed on the victims’ devices, the app would allow scammers to steal or trick victims into giving away their banking credentials. To protect yourself and your devices, never download dubious apps from unofficial sources.

If you are contacted on WhatsApp or other messaging platform with offers of the deals, verify the sources before you proceed further. |

Be careful if the person messaging you asked you to download any apps, and to make payment via these apps. |

Turn on transaction alerts. Contact the bank immediately if you notice any unauthorised transactions. |
